A message from the new Chairman of Stithians Parish Council - Phil Blease
On Tuesday 17th May 2016 at the Stithians Parish Council (SPC) annual general meeting I was elected Chairman.
Many of you may already know me from my work with the Stithians Centre and the numerous walks with my black Labrador, Ben, around the parish. I am honoured to serve the community in which I have lived for the last 25 years.
The two immediate and most important challenges are the completion of the toilet block conversion into a Post Office and small shop, and the urgent need to fill the vacancies on the Parish Council.
The “POST OFFICE AT YOUR CONVENIENCE” project has been beset with difficulties which has meant that the work has been much more involved and has taken longer than envisaged. My first task as Chairman is to organize the volunteers and schedule the remaining work necessary so that we have a full time working Post Office as quickly as possible which will be run by Michelle Firminger, the Post Mistress at Ponsanooth.
This is the biggest community project undertaken in the Parish for years and we could do with all the help we can get. CAN YOU HELP? If you have a trade or skill you think would be useful or even if you are an enthusiastic helper with a paint brush, please register your interest with me. I will then contact you on an “as and when” basis, giving you as much notice as possible. My contact details are below.
The second immediate challenge is that SPC should have 11 Councillors, as I write we actually have only 6 which means we have 5 vacancies. Being a Parish Councillor is not an onerous task and does not consume a lot of time. One meeting a month for 2 to 3 hours and maybe another 2 to 3 hours reading papers or doing site visits would be a typical month. I think almost everyone could find 4 to 6 hours a month to help shape the future of our beautiful Parish. If you are interested, please contact myself or one of the other Councillors for an informal chat about what is involved.
COME ON, NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED.
We have other interesting projects in the not too distant future which includes a new cemetery and a sports hall. This is in addition to the normal running and maintenance of the facilities and assets that the Parish Council looks after including the Playing Field and Play Equipment, the Rugby Field, Skate Park, Tennis Courts etc.
Please feel free to contact me regarding any of the above issues or any other matters that I may be able to assist you with.
