Meet the team who help keep The Stithians Centre thriving.

The Stithians Centre is a registered charity with the aims of providing facilities for meetings, lectures, classes and other forms of recreation and leisure for the community. This can only be done with the good will and hard work of lots of volunteers and helpers. The team comprise of many characters you will see around the centre and further afield in the parish.

If you would like to volunteer to help in the centre in any capacity please feel free to contact any of us for further information.

Denis Nightingale - Chairman

I became a trustee some years ago when I took over the editorship of the Stithians Times. It's been a very exciting time as a terrific troop of trustees has built up The Stithians Centre into the busy place it is today. I especially enjoy helping out at a varied number of events in the Centre from the film club to compering Stithians Got Talent. Volunteering here is hugely satisfying and we welcome anyone new with open arms.

John Colgate - Treasurer

John moved to Stithians with his wife, Anthea, in 2005, on retirement from the Royal Air Force after over 30 years’ service as a photographic interpreter and intelligence officer.  They bought a cottage “in need of some modernisation” and are still re-building it and rescuing its garden.  John has been Treasurer since 2008, soon after the modernised/extended Centre was opened.  When not generating invoices and budget forecasts, or working on the house and garden, he plays tenor saxophone and escapes to Bodmin where he flies and maintains a vintage light aircraft.  John is also Secretary of Feet Off the Ground, a Bodmin-based charity which provides aviation-related experiences and flights to disabled and disadvantaged young people.

Martin Roper - Caretaker
I’m originally from Paignton but moved down to Cornwall more than 20 years ago. I’m a glazier. I gave up work to help my partner Lesley care for her mum - the much missed Peggy Pascoe.  I cleaned in the Seven Stars for a few years. I am an avid football supporter and like nothing better than chatting about the game!
